New Picture Book! The Littlest Bird by Gareth Edwards

This is another adorable book from Little Bee Books that was released yesterday along with The Race to the Beach.

In this story, a little bird is tired of being squished in her nest, with no room to spread out.  So she packs her things and goes in search of a more suitable home.  She finds a nest, but soon finds out it’s a dragon’s nest!  Discreetly, she gathers her things back up and goes home to her family.  It’s a sweet story about family and learning that they’re worth putting up with.

This book is written in rhyme and is fun to read out loud.  It flows well and my kids love the illustrations.  The only thing I don’t like is the introduction of the dragon.  It seems out of place in the book, but my kids like that part.  They also like the part when she goes home and joins her family again.

Littlest Bird sets out on her own . . . And discovers that there’s no place like home!

There were seven green birds

in a beautiful nest

at the top of a tree

where the view was the best.

But the Littlest Bird

didn’t like it at all,

for the beautiful nest

was incredibly small.

Fed up with being jostled around by all her brothers and sisters and not getting any attention, Littlest Bird goes in search of the perfect nest, which seems to be empty … except for an hatching egg that gives her a BIG surprise!

Such beautiful drawings! I love that you said "family and learning that they're worth putting up with" haha. I agree, I just hope when the little bird came back the family paid a little more attention to her. Family is important yet the people in your life are more important when you and they show caring towards one another. When they are there for each other.
