Weekly Update (12/22/14): A New Baby, Craft Project, and Books I’m Reading

I’m having a baby girl in May!  This will be my third child, and my third daughter.  I can’t believe how excited I am to bring another little lady into the world!  Sometimes I think I must be crazy, but most of the time, I just can’t wait for May to get here so I can hold her.

Here are the Christmas stockings I made!  I love them.  They took a long time to make, but I’m really glad I did.  I still have to put our names on them, but that might not happen until next year. 🙂

My brain has been on vacation and I have been moving at a snail’s pace when it comes to reading.  On the bright side, I’ve enjoyed the books I read!

What I read last week:

This book was amazing.  It was so different than These Broken Stars, and I loved that it was.  I will be posting my review for it today, since the release day is tomorrow.

Unable to Finish:

I had to take it back to the library! 🙁  Honestly though, I’m not sure I would have been able to finish it anyway.  Not because it wasn’t good (because it was amazingly good), but because it was real.  It was the story of a real person fighting in a real war and I ended up crying through most of what I read.  I’m partially blaming my emotions on my pregnancy, but I’m a big softie and I couldn’t help myself.  Stories are very real to me.  They become part of my life in a way that’s hard to explain.  I dream about the books I read and I live in that world constantly.  So while I was reading this, I constantly thought about flying a bomber, watching my comrades get shot down one by one, meeting the eyes of my opponent before pulling the trigger, and holding a dying friend in my lap.  I cried even when I wasn’t reading it.

So there you have it.  I’m a weenie (no shame there).  If you’ve ever wondered why I’m such a stickler on content in the books I read, it’s because I literally lose sleep when I read something disturbing.

What I’m currently reading:

I’m more than half way through The Golem and the Jinni, and it is SO good!  I wish I would have read this book sooner.  I love it.

I just started The Witch’s Daughter last night, and I only got about 10 pages in, but so far, it’s very interesting.  I’m intrigued and I can’t wait to see where this story will take me.

What I’m Reading Next:

I’m working on a new series of posts for Brightly, so I need to read The Maze Runner series.  I’ve already read the first book and I loved it.  It was incredible.  So I’m really looking forward to reading the rest of the books.  I can’t wait to see the movie, too.

I got The Year of Billy Miller from the library to read with my first grader.  We needed something to read together and I think this will fit the bill nicely.  I also want to try and squeeze in The Look of Love.  It’s a sappy, sugary sweet book (according to Goodreads) and it’s short enough I should be able to read it in one or two days.

I’m at a loss as to what to do about accepting books for review on this site.  I get so many requests every day, and I can’t keep up.  I might have to stop accepting books for review, but I’d really hate to do that.  Some of my favorite books are ones that have been sent to me by authors and publishers.  This is the biggest reason I started my Review Campaign Services, because I want to give authors the chance to have their book reviewed and featured even if I can’t read it myself.

I’m still in debates about this, and I’ll just have to wait and see what the new year brings.
