Interview with Author Davon Washington:

If you could visit any time or place, when and where would you go?
It would have to be ancient Rome. A society so advanced with no electricity and no Facebook? I need proof!

If you could only read 3 books for the rest of your life, what would they be?
I’d read Malcolm Gladwell’s The Outliers to remind myself of the dedication required to be great. Ulysses, not just because it’s arguably the greatest fiction ever written but to have a point of view to join the debate. Life’s no fun without controversy. I’m going to cheat and put The Lord of the Rings into one “book”. Occasionally you need that story that you can fall into just to escape your own realities.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
Anything I see that’s extraordinary. I have met a man who literally had no arms or legs, not even nubs. Guess where I met him? Swimming in a swimming pool! THAT’S inspiration!

Is there anything about writing for children that you find particularly challenging?
Yes, sometimes you can have a very complex message and you have to figure out how to convey that so someone who doesn’t read or just started reading can comprehend.

What do you like to do in your free time?
The cliche answer I’m suppose to say is that I spend that time reading. The truth is that I LOVE to binge watch amazing television series that I’ve never seen!

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Anything with cookie dough

Any hidden talents?
I can multiple large numbers in my head 37 x 14 = 518 ( It sounds cooler when I do it in person )

Do you have any pet peeves?
I really HATE when people chastise there children for being children. Is it Timmy’s fault he knocked down the water? Maybe it’s daddy’s fault that the water was next to a four year old.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be Michael Jordan or as close to him as possible. I suppose I don’t have to explain how that worked out.

If you had any superpower, what would it be?
I’d love to stop time. There just aren’t enough hours in the day. Who wouldn’t love to pause time in the morning and sleep for another couple of hours before the day really started?

About Davon Washington:

I am a entertainment executive who was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. I have made a career out of helping people bring their artistic dreams to fruition. The same people who more often than not do very little to enhance the tender minds of the culture that supports them. Creative thinking isn’t a skill that you learn as an adult. It starts with that same imagination that we let run wild after we’ve mastered harder tasks like walking, talking and not using the bathroom on ourselves. It’s my mission to build a nation of creative thinkers one book at a time.

I too love cookie dough, Hate people that yell at their kids when it is their fault, and back in the day I was obsessed with Jordan. I had a life size cardboard deal in my room, his book, a hand painted photo of him on a basketball and every time I was up to shoot free throws, I would say his name under my breathe before shooting. Yep, I was a little obsessed, lol, but my free throw percentage was the best on the team!

Thanks for inviting me to the giveaway!
I like the idea of a book that encourages kids to push through their fears. There's not many little kids books that are designed just for that.
I've always thought that being able to pause time would be my superpower if I could have one although it was because I used to forget my homework and notebooks a lot when I was younger. I lived about ten minutes away from school so I would always imagine myself popping into my house and walking back to school.
