George and the man with the yellow hat take a trip to the firehouse, and George finds all sorts of new things to explore. When one curious monkey meets a company of unsuspecting firefighters, a big adventure is sure to follow!

Based on Margret Rey’s children’s book and the hit PBS KIDS TV series, this animated story featuring Curious George is part of iRead With, a new read-aloud program created to foster language development and help preschoolers get ready to read.

iRead With animated stories invite parents to read to their child and are designed to make children talk and participate in the shared reading activity.
Parents follow a prompting system that encourages them to start a conversation with the child, by asking questions about the story and the world around us. Children become actively involved in the narrative and get stimulated in a multi-sensory level.

My Thoughts:

I love Curious George!  I especially love the old style of illustrations that are used in this app.  They have a charming, nostalgic feel to them that kids will love and parents will remember from their own childhoods. The app has a professional narrator to read the story, or you can read it yourself.  The narrator is female, and she has a nice, easy voice to listen to.

In typical Curious George fashion, the mischievous monkey goes to a fire station with the man in the yellow hat and a school group.  George quickly gets distracted and winds up on the fire truck during a real fire call.

There are 2-3 animations per page, and they are simple movements that enhance the story rather than take away from it.  There is a nice number of words per page, so the book moves along at a nice pace and keeps little kids interested.

My kids love the apps from iRead With.  They are high quality and feature characters they already know and love. They also like the Story Theater section where you can use the settings and characters from the book to make your own stories. It’s a great way to spend a few minutes with your child.
