Based on the hit TV series, this animated story is part of iRead With, a new read-aloud program created to foster language development and help preschoolers get ready to read.

iRead With animated stories are designed to make children talk and participate in the shared reading activity.

iRead With is based on the dialogic reading method developed in conjunction with University of McGill’s Child Phonology Lab.

Parents follow a prompting system that encourages them to start a conversation with the child, by asking questions about the story. Children become actively involved in the narrative and get stimulated in a multi-sensory level.

My Thoughts:

The thing I love about book apps is that they give children a new way to
interact with the things they read. iRead With is a new app publisher
that has taken well known characters and added simple animations,
sounds, and narration to their stories. There is also the ability to
animate your own story using scenes and characters from the book. You
have the option to read the book yourself or have a professional
narrator read it to you.

My kids’ main interest was in the animations and extras in Caillou:
What’s That Funny Noise?
, which was fine since that’s the reason it’s an
app and not a printed book. The animations focus on enhancing the book
and engaging children. The story itself is a classic afraid-of-the-dark
tale that’s popular among children, with the added bonus of familiar
Caillou characters.

I’ve seen a lot of book apps in the past few years, and this is one of
the better ones I’ve seen. I like the interactiveness, and the
professional narration is really nice! The only thing I wasn’t 100% sold
on was the feature to animate your own story. While it was easy for me
to do it, it was more difficult for my kids (ages 4 & 6), and they
got frustrated.

If you are interested in book apps and don’t know what to look for or
where to start, try one of the iRead With apps. They’re good quality and
should be a positive experience for your kids, especially if they are
already fans of the Caillou TV show.
