Storypanda: Connecting Families Through Storytelling

Storypanda Book App

One of the most exciting things happening in the world of children’s publishing is the introduction of picture book apps and children’s ebooks.  A few weeks ago, I had an interview with Robert Scully, who mentioned that his upcoming project will be with Storypanda, a book app company.

Storypanda takes the traditional picture book and puts it into app format.  This is not a new concept, but their apps are unique in the way that they are customizable. You can swap characters, background and text.  It’s kind of like a Choose Your Own Adventure book, but in electronic format.  If you don’t feel like customizing, you can always opt to read the original stories in your Storypanda Library.

After you’ve customized your book to the way you want it, you can then share it with friends and family online.

When you download the free app (you can download it here:, you get the first book for free with the download.  All other books are $0.99.

My Thoughts:
I am going to be totally honest and admit that I love book apps.  I love them.

I downloaded the app for my children to try out.  They had a lot of fun customizing the story.  They read it multiple times, choosing a different route each time.  It was really enjoyable. This app and its books would appeal to most children.

The only problem that we had with the app is that some of the text customization features didn’t work the way they were supposed to.

This is a really fun way to read a book.  A lot of book apps blur the line between book and game, but I feel like Storypanda manages to maintain the experience of reading a book while adding bonus of interactivity.
