Dragonwatch by Brandon Mull

Age range: 10 and up Series: Dragonwatch (Book 1) | Hardcover: 384 pages | Publisher: Shadow Mountain (March 14, 2017)

YAS! I may have fangirled a wee bit when I got this ARC of Dragonwatch in the mail. Fablehaven is one of my all-time favorite fantasy series and it’s one of the first books I recommend to anyone. So, I was beyond thrilled to get my hands on a copy of Dragonwatch.

This is the first book in a planned sequel series of five books. It picks up where the Fablehaven series ended and throws us right back into the thick of things. Before you know it, you’re paralyzed with fear as a dragon breathes down your neck.

I LOVED this book. It was everything I ever wanted or needed in a follow-up novel. When I cracked it open and started reading about Seth and Kendra again, it felt like going home. The familiar characters, their adventures, and the setting all sucked me right back into that world like I never left.

Because Seth and Kendra are getting older, we see them gaining more independence and making tough choices on their own. It’s great to see them growing into themselves and playing to their strengths as they take on the challenges that come their way.

I devoured this book. Honestly, I gobbled up every page. Putting it down wasn’t an option.

I’m ecstatic that Brandon Dorman is giving us a follow-up series. I can’t believe our good fortune. My only wish is that all five books were already out so that I didn’t have a long wait in between them.

If you haven’t read Fablehaven, then read that series first. Yes, it’s a five book series, but you’ll be going through them so fast that you’ll be done in no time. You need to read Fablehaven first or you’ll be lost. Believe me, it’s worth it! What a great series.

Content: Some perilous situations. (PG)

Still haven’t tried FABLEHAVEN but I know this author and the series by name from my bookstore days. Many a fan would come in seeking that series as I am sure they will for this one as well. Thanks for the share!

I don’t read a lot of MG these days, but at the mention dragons I’m hooked…

This one fell more into the YA category. The original Fablehaven series is kind of a crossover between MG and YA, but Dragonwatch has both feet planted squarely in YA. I hope you get the chance to read these books. They’re the best!

It’s great when a book you enjoyed is getting another sequel series, and it sounds like this one was epic and just as wonderful as Fablehaven but for its own reasons. I haven’t tried any books by this author before but I do like fantasy so maybe this could be one for me 🙂
