October Book of the Month Selections

Book Roundup, Grown Up Books
Good as Gone a Novel of Suspense by Amy Gentry #reading #books | batchofbooks.com

I’m loving all these October Book of the Month selections! One of my favorite things to do each month is pick out a book for my box. I’m a little obsessive about it and stalk each book on Goodreads to see if any of my friends read them and what they thought. Most of the time, I want to get all the books, but I’m trying to behave myself and only pick one. I didn’t succeed this month. I added an extra book to my box, I’ve wanted to read it for some time and it came highly recommended on Goodreads.

Take a peek at the book selections for the month. Scroll to the bottom of the post to find deals and coupons for October.

October Book of the Month Selections

The Wangs vs the World by Jade ChangThe Wangs vs the World by Jade Chang #reading #humor #books | batchofbooks.com

This is a humorous novel about a previously successful Chinese immigrant family that lost everything. They take a trip across the country to find themselves and each other again. I love humor, but have a hard time finding good books in that genre. If I had room in my October book box, I probably would have sprung for this one.

The Mothers by Brit BennettThe Mothers by Brit Bennett #reading #books | batchofbooks.com

The Mothers sounds literary and serious, but interesting. It’s a highly anticipated book for fall and already received a ton of praise. It’s about secrets, community, and ambition. A young teenage couple has a summer fling that ends in pregnancy…and a cover up. Years later, they’re still dealing with the consequences of their choices and wondering “what if?”

The Fall Guy by James LasdunThe Fall Guy by James Lasdun #reading #books | batchofbooks.com

I aaaaaaalmost picked The Fall Guy for my box this month. A man is invited to spend the summer as a house guest in his cousin’s home. According to my Goodreads stalking, there’s a slow build up in the first half, but the second half keeps you turning pages all night long. It sounds amazing, like something I wouldn’t be able to put down.

The Wonder by Emma DonoghueThe Wonder by Emma Donoghue #reading #books | batchofbooks.com

I chose The Wonder for my October book box. It sounds haunting, a little weird, and very, very interesting. A woman gets hired to watch over a young girl who is slowly starving herself to death. The girl won’t eat anything because she believes that she’s being miraculously sustained. I love historical novels, especially when they investigate odd practices and fictionalize true events. The Wonder takes place in the 1800s.

Good as Gone: A Novel of Suspense by Amy GentryGood as Gone a Novel of Suspense by Amy Gentry #reading #books | batchofbooks.com

In the same vein as Gone Girl and Girl on the Train, this book is about a young girl who was kidnapped as a child, reappearing on her parents’ doorstep as an adult. It’s supposed to be a fast-paced thriller that keeps you turning pages as fast as you can. It sounds fabulous and I’ll definitely be picking it up.

Bonus Selection: Ready Player One by Ernest ClineReady Player One by Ernest Cline #reading #books | batchofbooks.com

Guilty confession here: when I saw this book available as an extra, I didn’t hesitate to add it to my October Book of the Month box. I’ve heard so much about it. Everyone I know that read it has loved it. As an “extra”, you can add it to your box for $9.99, but it’s not part of the regular selections. One of my friends on Goodreads highly recommended this book and I trust his opinion. Plus, it sounds right up my alley. I can’t wait to read this!

This is a really cool subscription and it’s not priced too heavily. The one you picked – The Wonder sounds really crazy but good. I’m curious to see what you think of it. I probably would have picked up Good as Gone myself because I love mysteries with kidnappings or odd circumstances.

I was really tempted to get that one too. It sounds so good. I saw it at the library the other day, so I’ll probably borrow it from there.
