I recently signed up for Book of the Month Club and I’ve loved it. Each month, I choose one of five books to receive as part of my subscription box. If I don’t find I book I’m interested in, I skip that month. If I find more than one book I want, I can add the extra ones to my box for $9.99 each. It’s a bookworm’s paradise.
If you decide to sign up, remember to use the code SUMMER30 for 30% off a 3 month subscription.
* * If you want to get one of these books, make sure you sign up TODAY, June 14! We’re already at the cutoff day for June mailings.
Meet the June Book Selections
Enchanted Islands by Allison Amend (guest judge Alexander Chee)
Spies, World War II, and the Galapagos Islands. This is a fictional account based on the journals of real people and the events that may have happened in the Galapagos. It’s a book about friendship, love, and trust. If you are a fan of WWII books or historical novels, you’ll want to snag this one.
Before the Fall by Noah Hawley (guest judge Liberty Hardy)
This is the book I picked for my June box. It just showed up and I can’t wait to dive into it! It’s a mystery that involves a plane crash and the one man that walks away from it. The guest judge that picked this book (Liberty Hardy) mentioned in her note that I shouldn’t read this on a plane. I’m going to take her advice. I’ll read it right BEFORE going on a plane. 😉
This is outside my comfort zone as far as novels go, so I’m excited to try something new.
Modern Lovers by Emma Straub (guest judge Morgan Jerkins)
This is a new release from the same author that wrote The Vacationers. It’s a coming of age novel for adults reaching that shocking part of middle-age when your children are suddenly the age you still think you are. It’s about a once-popular band, their secrets, the lives they led, and the life ahead.
The Veins of the Ocean by Patricia Engel (guest judge Roxane Gay)
I aaaaalmost picked this book for June. If my TBR stack wasn’t already so enormous, I would have added it to my box. It’s about a woman who’s brother receives the death sentence for killing a baby. After his execution, she moves to the Florida Keys and meets a Cuban man. It has themes of family, guilt, love, and freedom.
Shrill: Notes From a Loud Woman by Lindy West (guest judge Joel Stein)
This is a new release from a woman that relies heavily on humor to tackle subjects like body image and pop culture. I don’t read a lot of books like this, but I almost always enjoy them when I do. This was another tough contender for my June box.
