Once upon a time, in faraway Grimmlandia…

A Grimmtastic girl named Cinderella is starting her first week at Grimm Academy on the wrong foot. Cinda’s totally evil stepsisters are out to make her life miserable. The Steps tease Cinda, give her terrible advice about life at the academy, and even make her look bad in front of her new friends, Red, Snow, and Rapunzel! But when Cinda overhears the Steps plotting a villainous deed that could ruin Prince Awesome’s ball, Cinda, her new friends, and a pair of magical glass slippers have to stop them–before the last stroke of midnight!

My Thoughts:

In the first installment of the Grimmtastic Girls books, Cinderella
arrives at Grimm Academy, makes new friends, and discovers that her two
rotten step-sisters are involved in something very mysterious.

I loved the setting of the Grimm Academy. It reminded me of Harry Potter
a little bit with the different towers, the moving library, and unique
classes. The authors struck a nice balance between describing the
academy and moving the story forward. They built a fun and believable
world without going overkill on the details.

The characters are cute and likable. The Steps (Cinda’s step-sisters)
are horrid and spoiled, while Cinda’s friends prove trustworthy and
loyal. I even like Prince Awesome. The romance is kept age appropriate
and within believable parameters. The book mostly focuses on Cinda’s
friendships with the other girls and the strange happenings at the
Academy.

This is a light, easy to read, middle grade book that will appeal to
tween girls. Recommended for girls that like contemporary fantasy,
humor, and fairy tales.

My Thoughts:

The magical adventure continues in the second Grimmtastic Girls book. In
Red Riding Hood Gets Lost, Red and her friends follow the mapestry into
the enchanted forest in search of treasure. But when Red gets lost and
bumps into Wolfgang, she isn’t sure whether or not to trust him.

The characters each have quirks and personalities that make them unique.
The mysterious Wolfgang is an especially interesting character in this
book. For most of the story, neither the characters nor the reader can be certain if Wolfgang is a good guy—or a charming bad guy.

This is a fun, lighthearted series about the characters from the Grimm
fairy tales and nursery rhymes. They have all come to Grimm Academy for
protection from the E.V.I.L. Society. These books should be read in
order, since there is an overarching plot that connects all the books
together.

Joan Holub and Suzanne Williams have brought a delightful new series to
the middle grade market. These books are fun, full of friendship, and
even have a splash of age appropriate romance.
