Books With the Same Covers

Uncategorized

This is one of those things that I notice a lot. Maybe it’s because I’m an artist, and so visual images stick with me, but I constantly see books with the same cover image. It always makes me wonder how out of all the stock imagery out there, two people (or publishing companies) will end up choosing the same image.

Most of these images are exactly the same, but a couple were just really close and reminded me of each other.

Totally the same!

This one was really weird.  Fallen is such a big series, I didn’t expect to see their cover image used anywhere else.  You can see that it has been Photoshopped to look a little different, but it’s the same photo.
I couldn’t find the other book with this same image, but trust me, it’s out there.  There must be something with this series.

The first two images are exactly the same, and the last three are just similar in concept.

Daily Boutique Deals

These two are just similar.

Same!

Same!

Similar.

So there you have it.  Even if your book is a best seller, there is a chance that someone else has the same cover image that you do.  Or one very similar.

I so hate when I see this too. Something Treachery is the same way. I didn't know about the Opal book. I wonder if they can sue or is illustrators just sell of the design to multiple people?
The last books are done on purpose. They are by the same people but different series.

You are right about the last two books. I didn't even notice that they were written by the same person. I guess that makes sense that they would have similar covers. The Opal book and the Fallen book were really weird to me. I know that a lot of indie writers will use stock imagery, so it makes sense that you would see the same cover now and again, but it's really weird to see it with a best selling book. I don't know, maybe even big publishers are using stock imagery???

That's just wrong. I know there was this illustrator a few years back that did this one cover and refused to do one for this other publishing agency I think… Both covers looked really similar.http://nathaliasuellen.blogspot.com/2011/08/rip-off-harper-collins-publisher.html

[…] Funny.  I still wonder about this.  But in all honesty, that is a gorgeous photo.  To see more books with the same covers, see my other post. […]
